Transforming Trash into Gold: Universitas Airlangga Drives Innovative Circular Economy Initiative in Siliragung Village
Universitas Airlangga’s BBK 7 starts the Trash to Gold plan in Desa Siliragung, Banyuwangi Regency. BBK 7 UNAIR works with Kube Avatar and Pegadaian. All join in one task to change waste into a money-saving asset for the local people.
Tackling Waste with an Economic Flow
Siliragung deals with waste every day. People throw out plastics, paper, and metals at home. The plan asks residents to sort each kind of trash. Kube Avatar collects the sorted waste and turns it into gold savings under Pegadaian’s support. This method cuts harm to nature while giving families a way to earn more.
Strengthening Community Money Skills
The plan helps people learn about saving and simple forms of investment. Pegadaian shows locals how to save money by buying gold in small steps. A staff member from Pegadaian said, "Our way is easy and safe. It helps families invest in gold as they care for their home." This link ties everyday acts of care with a small step toward a secure future.
Law and Group Work as the Base
The plan rests on local law. Kube Avatar is a registered group in Siliragung working in many areas such as animal care, farming, commerce, community training, and nature care. Local rules allow them to pick up and process waste. BBK 7 UNAIR students help to set the work plans, lay out daily tasks, and produce posters. Their work shows a firm bond between study and service.
Matching Worldwide Growth Aims
This plan fits global aims. It cuts poverty by giving extra income, grows jobs that care for nature, and helps balance chances for everyone by saving in gold. Each step connects what happens in Siliragung with big targets set around the world.
A Model for Lasting Community Help
Trash to Gold is the first sign that waste can change into a money source. It links caring for nature with the act of saving money. Merging education, local work, and finance creates a simple path to a better life in Siliragung. Other regions with similar waste problems may use this idea next. BBK 7 UNAIR, Kube Avatar, and Pegadaian all work side by side to build a lasting path forward.
